Ottawa Police Services (OPS) Victim Crisis Unit

The Victim Crisis Unit is made up of professional crisis counsellors who provide:

  • counseling to people in crisis; and
  • assessment and referral services to people who are victims of crime or involved in serious incidents.

The Unit's staff work closely with Ottawa Victim Services (OVS-SVO). OVS-SVO is made up of trained and dedicated volunteers who provide practical assistance and emotional support to victims. Our staff also work with other agencies and community members to ensure they provide the best services possible to those in need.

Ottawa Victim Services

Ottawa Victim Services (OVS) provides emotional support, practical assistance, referrals and advocacy to individuals who have been victimized as a result of a crime or tragic circumstance, without judgment in order to lessen the impact of victimization. OVS is a community-based agency committed to treating individuals with courtesy, compassion and with respect for their dignity, privacy and diversity.

Support for individuals who have been victimized as a result of crime or tragic circumstance is provided by professional staff and trained volunteers by telephone, on-scene and in our victim services office. Clients can access our services through referrals from community service agencies, the Police or self-referrals.

Services Available: Victim Crisis and Referral Services, Supportlink, Victim Quick Response Program and Court Accompaniment Program.
