Assault Victims

What is Assault?

According to Section 265 of the Criminal Code1, an assault occurs when a person:

  • applies intentional force, directly or indirectly, to another person without their consent;
  • attempts or threatens such force upon another person; or
  • accosts or impedes another person while brandishing a weapon.

Section 264 of the Criminal Code2 states that a person commits an offence if they knowingly utter, convey, or cause another person to receive a threat:

  • of death or bodily harm;
  • of destruction of real or personal property; or
  • of death or injury to a personal pet or animal.
