Canadians Victimized Abroad
Is there help for Canadians who are victimized abroad?
Canadians travelling outside of the country can be victims of violent crime. The Department of Justice Victims Fund offers limited emergency financial assistance for Canadians who are victimized abroad. The funding is intended for Canadians who are victims of serious violent crime outside of Canada.
Funds are only provided to victims:
- who have incurred exceptional expenses as a result of their victimization; and
- who have exhausted all other means of funding.
Serious violent crime is generally considered:
- homicide
- sexual assault
