Youth Victims

A Statistics Canada crime survey conducted in 20031 indicates that children and youths (under 18 years of age) are the victims of 22% of all violations against the person. The most alarming result of the survey finds that victims of sexual assault are most often children and youths. While children and youths represent approximately 20% of Canada’s population, they also account for 61% of all sexual assaults reported to police.

Youth victims need to be assured that there are resources available to help them with the challenges that they will face as a result of their victimization. Along with the many and varied resources that are available to all victims of violent crime in the National Capital Region, there are several specific resources for youth victims.
